Planting the Seed for The Next Generation of Health and Wellness
After enduring multiple miscarriages, navigating the flawed American healthcare system, and experiencing a lengthy emotional journey toward parenthood, Simmone Taitt saw an opportunity to provide a better path for a diverse population of birthing people.
Simmone became a birth and full spectrum doula and launched a proof-of-concept (POC) service on WhatsApp that extended her services, along with those of her network of colleagues, virtually through private and group chat rooms. The POC took off quickly and soon Simmone became the leader of a group of doulas, midwives, and nurses providing virtual care through a telehealth chat service to expectant mothers, postpartum parents, and those experiencing a loss. Proving the demand for affordable care via chat existed, it was time to take her newly founded business, Poppy Seed Health, to the next level.
With a knack for working with startups and developing well-thought-out platforms, I’d gained a reputation that drew Poppy Seed Health to partner in launching their first iOS and Android app alongside a custom API. It didn’t take Simmone much convincing for me to be fully onboard in an exciting new territory for healthcare.
In just a little over four months, Poppy Seed Health and my team built the world’s first on-demand chat service specifically designed to support birthing people. The network of over 400 birthing professionals ensured members of Poppy Seed Health could request support 24 hours a day, seven days a week and be connected with a professional, or Advocate, within a few seconds. Whether it’s coping with a loss or a quick question about lactation, Poppy Seed Advocates are waiting anytime, any day, anywhere.
At the time of this writing, Poppy Seed Health has logged over 214,000 hours of telehealth support across thousands of chats between Members and Advocates. ◼️
